Angela is an enthusiastic voice teacher from Southwestern Ontario and a recent import to Ottawa. She is a soprano who specializes in musical theatre, classical, and opera. As a teacher, she instructs students of many ages and abilities. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and a Diploma in Opera from Wilfrid Laurier University, and has studied across the country and abroad with many leading voice specialists. Most recently, she completed the pedagogy workshop Bel Canto: Can Belto at Penn State University.
For many years, Angela worked regularly with The Singer’s Theatre in Kitchener-Waterloo under the leadership of Amanda Brunk. As Vocal Director and Music Director of the Junior Ensemble, Angela worked on many shows including Snoopy! and Children’s Letters to God. During that time, she assisted with the vocal coaching of Jane Eyre, Blood Brothers, and Rent. She also spearheaded a partnership between Student NATS and The Museum to perform an operatic setting of Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince.
As a performer Angela has performed with Opera York, Opera Laurier, KW Musical Productions, Opera NUOVA, the Georgian Bay Symphony, The A Cappella Chamber Choir, Queen of Puddings, St. Andrews by the Sea, and the Casalmaggiore International Festival in Italy. Musical theatre roles include Cinderella in Into the Woods, Maria in The Sound of Music, Laurey in Oklahoma!, and Angelica in Trial by Jury. Operatic roles include Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, L’enfant in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, First Knitter in Seymour Barab’s A Game of Chance, Nursing Sister in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and Harry in Britten’s Albert Herring. Oratorio credits include Daley’s Requiem, Poulenc’s Gloria, Handel’s Ode for St. Cecilia and Schubert’s Mass in G.
Angela’s enthusiastic approach to new opera has led her to premier the roles of Katherine in Glenn James’ To Daniel, Mortimer in Meagan Bunce’s Mortimer, Esurient in Luke Nickel’s Jack and his Jillions, and the Grand-daughter in the North American Premier of Ella Milch-Sherrif’s And the Rat Laughed with Opera York.
Since moving to Ottawa, Angela has advanced quickly into the community. In November 2015, Angela began teaching with Stagecraft Children's Theatre School, instructing young singers in musical theatre singing. She has also performed locally in the Acting Company's debut concert series with a cabaret entitled Songs and Sass, alongside Jennifer Cecil and Joyanne Rudiak.
Angela’s studio consists of both beginning and advanced students interested in classical and musical theatre. Many have performed with The Stratford Shakespeare Festival of Canada, Mirvish Productions, The Drayton Festival, and many post-secondary programs across Canada and the U.S. in theatre, musical theatre, dance, and voice performance.
